Tricks & Tips for a Spick & Span Apartment

Spring is just around the corner and that means spring cleaning time. Did you slack a little this winter and cut some corners when cleaning your apartment? I am totally guilty of this too. Kick this spring into action with painless cleaning tricks and tips that will make your apartment sunshine ready.

CarpetsClean carpets are happy carpets.

This may not be the easiest thing to do but you are going to feel so satisfied after … move all couches, tables, and area rugs out of the room. Proceed to vacuum the entire floor and then spray with a sweet smelling carpet cleaner for an extra dose of cleanliness.

Refrigerator and freezer

Clean out your fridge and freezer.

That mayo from two years has got to go! Take out everything from your fridge and give the shelves a good deep clean. If you want to get into little crevices where dirt always finds a hiding spot, use a toothbrush to scrub.

Don’t forget to clean your curtains.

Take them down and give them a good whack outside to get all the dust from winter off. Did you know that you can vacuum curtains in a pinch if you don’t want to send them to the dry cleaners?

Make your oven shine like the top of the Chrysler Building.

Clean off last season’s crumbs and baked cheese that’s stuck on your oven. The self-clean option is good, but if you want to get rid of all your grime, use a solution of: five tablespoons of baking soda, three drops of liquid dish soap, and four tablespoons of white vinegar and get to scrubbing! Make sure to rinse after and let dry.

Dust Everything

Dust everything

From the top of your picture frames down to your floor boards. Remember to start at the top of the room – when dust falls down, you don’t have to clean twice.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Go through your closet and donate what you don’t wear and is still in good condition. Not sure what you do or don’t use? Last year I turned all my hangers in one direction and after I wore something I put the hanger away in the opposite direction. At the end of the year I had two large bags full of clothes I had no idea I never wore.

Bring brilliance to a boil on your stove.

Is your stovetop covered in the grime of meals’ past? Use a vinegar solution to clean it off and then put car wax on the surface. Wipe it off immediately. This helps you to clean off spills from your stove in seconds.

There’s no need to be afraid to clean the bathroom anymore.

The bathroom is a place that you should clean every week. Yes, every week! This makes clean up quicker each time. Give your bathroom a budget-friendly facelift: switch out your old shower curtain and display towels with new ones that scream spring.

Sanitizing Wipes

Put those tissues away.

Now that flu season has passed, wipe down everything with disinfecting wipes that you come in contact with on a daily basis: door knobs, faucets, and the microwave handle, for starters.

Refills at the ready!

Restock your cleaning supplies every year, so you can wipe down surfaces or dust in a pinch.
