Places to Visit in Brevard County Over the Weekend 

As one of the biggest tourist hubs in the United States, Florida is home to some of the most fun and interesting attractions in the country. Brevard County in particular is home to several great attractions, and not just the famous Kennedy Space Center. From zoos to taverns, there are plenty of unique places to check out. Brevard Zoo

One of Brevard County’s most well-known establishments is the Brevard Zoo, located in Melbourne, FL. The zoo protects more than 900 species of animals, and 135 of those species are native to Florida. Several tours are available to try at this zoo, including a kayaking tour down the Nyami Nyami River. 

Animal encounters take place throughout the day, and give you the chance to get a firsthand look at some of the incredible animals the staff are protecting. Another popular attraction is the Treetop Trek, which allows visitors to climb and ride ziplines through the lush Florida forests. Visitors can even visit the aquarium and get the chance to touch several sea creatures! 

Exploration Tower

The Exploration Tower at Port Canaveral is one of Brevard County’s architectural landmarks. Completed in 2013, this tower is one of the newest additions to the county, and was built to represent the development of Port Canaveral. Seven floors of exhibits are on display here, and allow visitors to learn about the history of the port and ships that sailed from there. 

Other features include a 72-seat theater, as well as indoor and outdoor observation decks that can be used to view the surrounding area. Visitors can also visit the café to grab lunch, and visit the gift shop to pick up fun mementos. On special occasions, the rooftop observation deck is used to watch rocket launches from the Kennedy Space Center.

Looking for a different kind of park to visit? If so, the Cocoa Beach Aerial Adventures is a place you should definitely check out. Aerial Adventures has seven distinct trails, and each one offers opportunities for climbing and zip-lining. By focusing on these types of attractions, the park designers are able to provide visitors with a fun experience, while also preserving the lush environments along the Banana River. 

Trails are divided based on difficulty, so all ages are welcome. If you plan to visit often during the summer, a season pass is available that provides unlimited access to the park throughout the pass’ duration. Historic Cocoa Village

Located in Cocoa’s downtown area, the Historic Cocoa Village is one of Brevard County’s premiere shopping and entertainment destinations. The local shops carry an assortment of items, including clothes, home décor, jewelry, recreational items, and more. Several restaurants and bakeries are open here if you want to grab a quick bite. You can also visit Cocoa Riverfront Park, which is one of the best parks along the Space Coast

Events are also hosted throughout the year, including craft fairs and cook offs. Be sure to check the official calendar to get updates on upcoming events. 

If you have interest in live performances, take the time to visit the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse during your visit. This is one of the most well-known performing arts venues in Brevard County, and affordable community shows are hosted throughout the year.

If you plan to visit the Cocoa Beach Pier, you should stop at the Rikki Tiki Tavern during your stay. The tavern offers beautiful views of the oceanfront, making it one of the most popular destinations along the pier. Seats are available for 100 people, so sit down for a little while and take the opportunity to soak in the salty sea air. 

Refresh yourself by trying one of the tropical drinks served here, including the Mai Tai, Watermelon Mint Lemonade, and the iconic Pieradise, among others. Food service is now available, and burgers, lobster club sandwiches, and many other items are also available on the menu. A kid’s menu is also available upon request.
